Council Brings New Catechetical Materials to St. William Parish

February 23rd, 2010 Posted in Parish, Prayer & Devotion by Tom Convery | No Comments »

We are pleased to present a new educational opportunity called Lighthouse Catholic Media, a practical and effective program to help Catholics know their faith . . . to keep their faith! We all live busy, busy lives. Finding the time to come to classes to learn about our Faith is difficult. But now, we are able to meet you where you are! Wherever you have a CD player available to you, in the car or at home, you can deepen your understanding and love for our Faith. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus here at St. William, you’ll see a display stand on your way into church offering nine different CD’s and three different brochures. These feature some of the most inspiring Catholic speakers—bishops, priests, deacons, and eminent Catholic lay men and women. These CD’s and pamphlets will be offered for a donation of $3 per CD and $.50 per pamphlet, so that we can continue the program with additional titles.
Look for the launch of Lighthouse Catholic Media program the weekend of March 6 & 7! Titles included at the launch will be:

Winter Picnic: A Great Answer to Snow

February 12th, 2010 Posted in General Membership News by Tom Convery | No Comments »

With all  Metro Detroit schools enjoying a “snow day” on Wednesday, our timing for our annual Winter Picnic could not have been better.  With the roads already well-cleared, we were able to navigate easily to Lower Zepf Hall and enjoy a little ’simulated summer’.  We had a nice group of 25 and a great variety of side dishes and some hot, delicious fried chicken.  Classic cartoons on the big screen, cards, and family board games all helped to make for a very enjoyable evening. A big thank you goes out to DGK Greg Zerber and his “Team FRATERNITY” which organized the event and to everyone who helped him (great chicken, Terry Morano!).

Marian Devotional Area Fundraiser Nears Closure

October 12th, 2009 Posted in Membership, Parish, Prayer & Devotion by Tom Convery | No Comments »

The Marian Devotional area landscaping is pretty much complete–we just need to wait for the seed to grow in the outlying lawn area and the annuals to be planted in the spring!  Last week, the children from our Religious Education classes joined the Knights in praying the rosary in the newly restored area.  It is wonderful to be able to pray together before our monthly meeting and it is a special joy to share that devotion with our parish children.

We have collected $3,500 from our members as of this writing (October 12, 2009).  We will of course be happy to accept any further gifts which might bring us to our $4,000 goal.  All the Knights of our council are to be commended for their prayers and gifts in support of this wonderful project.  It will be a great source of peace and devotion for our parish and community.

MI Drive a Huge Success

October 12th, 2009 Posted in Charities, Mentally Impaired by Tom Convery | No Comments »

This past weekend’s MI Drive was a huge success raising nearly $4,000 over the three day run.  Our chairman, Steve Brown, did a great job of organizing and lining up corners & storefronts at which we could solicit donations.  While we could certainly have used even more man-hours of help, we did get great cooperation from our members.  This marks the first time in recent history that we have held a 3-day MI drive in the fall–our Columbus Day weekend MI drive has been a 1-day (Saturday) event.  Fall weekends seem to find our members (particularly those with young families) much more busy than the spring drive over the Palm Sunday weekend.  We all understand the difficulty of squeezing out time on such busy weekends and appreciate that family is a priority.  We are grateful for all the efforts made by all of our members on whatever activities they are able to commit themselves to in service to our order and the community.

We should look forward to disbursing these funds at out next regular business meeting on November 2, 2009.  I hope to see all of our members there– Rosary at 7:20 p.m.; business begins at 8:00 p.m. in lower Zepf Hall

MI Drive This Weekend

October 7th, 2009 Posted in Charities, Mentally Impaired by Tom Convery | No Comments »

This weekend is our fall MI Drive.  This semi-annual drive held on Columbus Day weekend in the fall and Palm Sunday weekend in the spring is a hallmark Knights of Columbus event and our chief source of financial support to provide assistance to the mentally impaired in our community and across the state.  Our chairman, Steve Brown has put a good deal of time and effort into securing permits for collection at major intersections and at local storefronts.  Steve has had a fair response to his several emails, but many time slots are still open for assignment.

Together we form the body of Christ.  As the body of Christ, we can bring healing, comfort, and the good news of salvation to a suffering world.  This weekend, I am asking you to be the hands of Christ reaching out with our collection can to solicit funds.  I am asking you to be the hands that take the donations to the rectory basement where it will be sorted, counted, and deposited.  We will be the hands that give comfort to those mentally impaired brothers and sisters who need our help.

For each hour you spend on a corner, we can hope to raise around $50.00 for the Mentally Impaired.  If each of our Brother Knights could find just 2 hours this weekend, we could raise over $10,000.00.  Please try to squeeze time out of you busy schedule this weekend to help in this work.  Be the hand of Christ reaching out to a world in desperate need of His healing touch.

Follow this link to our online interactive spreadsheet on Google Docs.  There is a separate tab in the spreadsheet for each location and time slots for each day which you can fill in.  Just find an empty time slot that fits your schedule and put your name in it.  The spreadsheet is updated in real time, so you know up-to-the-minute where we need help and where we are covered. Here is the link:

Thank you for all you do to build up the Body of Christ.
